LYRA Returns to KYC for the Tenth Time

SinC KYC LYRA 2023

April 5, 2023

This will be the tenth LYRA annual regatta that KYC has hosted since it commenced in 1894. Only two clubs (Rochester and Sodus Bay) have hosted more during that period. We don’t expect that many will remember our first ‘hosting’ (1898), but we have heard some great stories after our last hosting in 1996.

LYRA 2023 includes racing for PHRF and one-design fleets.

PHRF classes will race a mixture of course/harbour races and offshore races. For the full event, yachts will participate in Centennial Cup ‘feeder’ races starting at various points around Lake Ontario and finishing at KYC. Kingston-based yachts will participate in a race that starts and finishes at KYC.

The notice of race is HERE.

SinC KYC LYRA 2023 2 400The event proper starts with the Freeman Cup races Wednesday, July 26. Overnight races start and finish at KYC on Thursday, July 27. The course racing events for PHRF and one-design fleets comprise Friday, Saturday and Sunday racing in Kingston Harbour, with prize-giving/awards ceremonies after racing on Sunday before the fleet disperses for another year. Alongside the racing will be a vibrant social and F & B program.

Plans are advancing for the event, under Chair Stephen Yates, PRO Bill Visser and GM Tom Wilson, with support of the LYRA 2023 Organizing Committee.
